Your preschooler has an extremely rich interior life and spends a lot of his
waking time in his imagination. Real and imagined experiences are easily
interchanged and so lying and wishful thinking can become easily mixed up.
Developmental milestones include:
- Understanding that his mind
is his own; that what he thinks are his own thoughts and that no-one knows
what he's thinking unless he tells them.
- Beginning to understand
concepts such as about height and size, but is easily confused.
- Showing some understanding of
time - he understands that day follows night
- Understanding the meaning of
big and little, short and tall
- Knowing who's a boy and who's
a girl
- Knowing how old he is
- Beginning to be able to draw
a person on paper - although you may not be able to recognise it as a
person.
